“Did you find anything?” Yellowheart dashed out from the Warrior’s den as Nightstar and a patrol of cats returned from another patrol in search of Hailclaw. “First it’s Lizardstorm who runs away now Hailclaw!” It was Kinkfur who complained. He was mates with Amberfoot and she had just given birth less than a moon ago. Whenever he would have to do warrior duties while he was with his kits, he would grow upset. Without another word, he stalked towards the Nursery to see Tigerkit and Mudkit. “Nightstar, Hailclaw was disrespectful and every cat doubted him. Why should you go searching for him and disturbing yourself?” Fernspeckle brushed out from between Dustpaw and Spottedpaw to meet eyes with Nightstar. She had mooned over him as an apprentice and respected the thought of him having a better cat for a mate. Nightstar sighed, almost thinking to give up. “He may be disrespectful but I trusted him, I know he was loyal he just never proved that.” The chirping of the birds was the only thing that broke their silence. “Fernspeckle!” Oakleaf was in the clearing having a plump rabbit in front of his paws.
“You should go,” Nightstar licked Fernspeckle’s muzzle and padded away towards his den and disappeared into the cave’s darkness. Yellowfang, Dustpaw and Spottedpaw glanced at each other awkwardly. “Dustpaw, it’s time for training. Spottedpaw, I will go ask Snakefang if we can train together.” Dustpaw and Spottedpaw lightened up as they herd they would do training today. “okay!” they mewed together excitedly that gave Yellowfang a purr of amusement.
The following night, the clearing was peaceful and Snakefang was guarding the camp. Wind rustled the leaves as the trees leaned to either side. A small puddle made by previous rain rippled gently, showing the reflection of Silverpelt up above. Nightstar was in his nest thinking restlessly about the peacefulness. All this had happened and there was no sign of StarClan since his meeting with Firestar of ThunderClan. Anger will shatter the blaze unless the one brother thrives with protection. He did not understand. Whose anger and who or what is blaze? The brother will protect what and why? Millions of questions reeled in his head like a swarm of bees. With a grunt of frustration he shifted to the other side of his nest and fell asleep.
“Nightstar! Hey Nightstar wanna play?” A playful squeal of a kit let Nightstar to be awakened. There was a bright orange kit on top of him urging him to play. “Common Nightstar…you’re such a mean father!” The kit leaped off of Nightstars belly and turned her face away. “hmph” The NightClan leader stared in confusion. “Father?” He muttered as he got to his paws on the smooth short grass. The proud kit giggled. “Why are you calling me father? I’m neither a guy nor your father!” she squealed then giggled some more while jumping up and down.
“W-who are you?” The black tom squint his eyes to get a better look at her. For a second she looked like Maplefur, the same ginger pelt and white paws, but her eyes were a dazzling blue. The ginger she-kit rolled over in amusement and giggled, but said nothing. “I’m Blazekit,” she mewed at last. “I look forward to seeing you!” Before Nightstar could say anything more, a black cat-like character leaped onto Blazekit from the shadows and she dissolved into the air leaving no other trace. The black tom laughed softly and he sheathed his claws again and stared coldly at Nightstar. “Is that you….Liz--” Nightstar was cut off as a giant hole opened up beneath him and saw the familiar tom laughing even more. “See you in the Darkforest my brother!” Nightstar’s eyes widened in horror as he fell through the endless black hole. Everything turned black, and death called from under him.
“Nightstar! Wake up! Hey…earth to Nightstar!” The black tom awoke and saw Yellowheart shaking his shoulder with a paw. The terrifying dream was going through freshly in his head. Yellowheart sighed with relief. “I thought I had to send Sandpool because you were grunting and gasping in your sleep. Did you have a bad dream?” The asked as he nuzzled Nightstar to his paws. The NightClan leader hesitated, surely his clan would worry and there would be much chaos if he told any cat his vision. It was too impossible to be true, Blazekit and that familiar tom that called him brother and killed the innocent kit, everything was impossible. “Uh….Nightstar? The dawn patrol is waiting.” The golden and white tom headed out the den to join the others letting Nightstar follow more slowly behind him. What should I do, Lizardstorm is out there, and this could be the end of NightClan!
